Structure & Terms

2 year terms, renewable up to 3 times or 6 years total. After 6 years, a justice and outreach board member would have to take off a minimum of 1 year to rest before considering serving on the board again.

• Rational: The above terms give opportunities for current serving board members to opt out to rest and opt back in if interested. It also encourages the Justice and Outreach Board to continuously look for new potential members to bring in new vision, while reducing the pressure for board members to serve for a long time because there is no one else to fill their role on the board.

The Justice and Outreach Board should be comprised of:

• Justice and Outreach Director (R/SF staff)
• Justice and Outrech Coordinator (R/SF staff)
• 3-4 board members (non-staff)

Member Traits

• 1 Tim 3:1-13
• Is known by others in the church and CG, is spoken well of, and has the character consistent with deacon/deaconess as discerned in scripture
• Spirit filled, mature believer who has deep care and concern for others
• Not afraid of money and can discern from the Holy Spirit what’s needed
• Regular attendance and commitment to Reality community for minimum of 1 year
• In community group or other community gatherings (I.e. men’s or women’s study accountability etc..)
• Demonstrates commitment to community and/or church service and ministry
• Willing to provide 2 references who can speak to your qualifications
• Membership is in 2 year term increments for Board and Advisory. 1 year for Allies. 1 year for Intercessors. The member may step down at any point. After two years served, members can renew membership after a required 1-3 month sabbatical.

Board Member Responsibilities

Responsibilities to be covered by R/SF staff (Justice and Outreach Director + Coordinator)

• Solidify volunteer opportunities with partner organizations; assist with identifying partner orgs’ volunteer liaisons; organize and run volunteer trainings
• Facilitate conversations between partner organizations and R/SF staff regarding stage and newsletter announcements
• Provide “coaching” to individual missionaries as needed - e.g. fundraising strategies
• Liaise with R/SF accountant and Tarik as needed regarding finances
• Liaise with R/SF pastors as needed regarding board decisions
• Manage board meeting monthly schedule
• Create and manage monthly meeting agenda, including incoming requests to discuss
• Manage monthly pipeline spreadsheet with incoming requests
• Take meeting minutes
• Conduct vetting meetings with potential renewal partner organizations and individual missionaries
• Meet and pray with missionaries and renewal partner organizations on occasion
• Organize meet-and-greet events for missionaries and renewal partner organizations on occasion

Responsibilities to be covered by non-staff board members

8-10 hours/month: meetings and communication

• Keep updated on emails on incoming requests, think and pray about requests before our monthly meeting
• Contribute to the evolution of the philosophy and vision of the Justice and Outreach Board as it grows and changes
• Active interest and everyday embodiment of Reality SF and Justice and Outreach Board values, including commitment to Biblical stewardship of finances, material goods, and power.
• Commitment to knowing the landscape of mission-driven organizations in San Francisco
• Conduct vetting meetings with potential renewal partner organizations and individual missionaries
• Meet and pray with missionaries and renewal partner organizations on occasion
  • Provide basic “coaching” to individual missionaries as needed - e.g. fundraising strategies
  • Manage Justice and Outrech Board finances (track overall budget health, projected spending, maintain emergency reserve, identify surpluses and potential uses for money)
  • Email R/SF accountant with monthly board decisions
  • Attend volunteer trainings when possible
  • Attend meet-and-greet events for missionaries and renewal partner organizations when possible

Potential Additions to the Team

Allies

4 - 6 hrs/month: meetings with care recipients and internal communication

• Wholly focused on intimacy in relationship with Jesus
• Ally with ministry partners, communicate and implement action plan for Volunteering
• Attend quarterly Justice and Outrech Board meeting (luncheon).
• Active interest and everyday embodiment of Reality/SF values (Faith, Humility, Hospitality & Rootedness) including commitment to Biblical stewardship of finances, relationships, material goods, and power.

Advisors

2 - 4 hrs/month

• Wholly focused on intimacy in relationship with Jesus
• Attend quarterly Justice and Outreach meeting (luncheon)
• Active interest and everyday embodiment of Reality SF values (Faith, Humility, Hospitality & Rootedness) including commitment to Biblical stewardship of finances, material goods, and power.
• Share wisdom, experience, knowledge, solutions and community resources.
• Disciple, train, nominate Justice and Outrch Board Members

Intercessors

4 - 6 hrs/month: praying for specific missionaries, orgnaizations and the mission team

• Wholly focused on intimacy in relationship with Jesus
• Joyfully and Lovingly Pray for Justice and Outrech Minisrty - Missionaries, Renewal Partner Organizations and Board Members
• Attend quarterly Justice and Outreach Team meeting (luncheon)
